Jules' Sepsis Story

My Story

Meet Jules. Sepsis survivor.

Jules is a mother of two girls from New Zealand but living in Singapore and had sepsis in December 2016.

Jules had laser treatment to remove incompetent veins which is usually a walk in the park. Although she did not walk away for two weeks. She woke up vomiting, dizzy, in pain and with low blood pressure.

She then got transferred to the intensive care unit where the CT scans showed a severe kidney infection. Her whole body started contracting and she thought her bones were going to break at the force of it. She felt like she was having a heart attack and her head was going to pop off. She then spent 7 days in ICU, which involved 2 blood transfusions, body swelling, breaking down of skin and much more.

She eventually was given the all-clear to leave the hospital. Unfortunately, sepsis doesn't simply stay at the hospital. Jules still suffers from post-sepsis syndrome where she suffers from skin and hair falling off and short-term memory loss.

So how did Jules get sepsis? She had a huge weekend before the procedure, horse riding in Malaysia, a tropical climate resulting in an undetected kidney infection. They believe the procedure kicked off the "perfect storm". Jules is lucky to still have her legs and has become a stronger woman from this experience. She is dedicated to sharing her story to help raise awareness of sepsis and above all, helping other sepsis survivors.

Thanks for sharing your story Jules!
